About This Event

ACPI are planning to return to physical events at the host universities in 2021. We know however that the events of this year have had longer lasting impacts on participants’ ability and willing to travel for conferences. We are therefore planning for conferences moving forward to be “hybrid” in essence. Meaning that they will be physical events with virtual elements built into them to create an experience for both those who can attend in person and those able to attend online.

Now in its fourth year the International Conference on Tourism Research, building upon successful events in Porto, Portugal, Jyväskylä, Finland and virtually supported in Valencia, Spain.  The global approach to tourism has changed considerably over the past decades – in part due to low-cost travel and also due to an increased concern about the sustainability of tourism from both cultural and environmental perspectives. Despite some advances being made in the area, topics related to tourism research remain pertinent and are gaining momentum in a changing society. It is thus important to continue to develop research on specific tourism topics, in order to acquire a clearer understanding and to obtain important insights.

This conference is establishing itself at the cutting edge of tourism research and brings together a diverse range of thinkers on the topic, we welcome everyone researching in this area to present their work to the scientific community.

The International Conference on Tourism (ICTR 2020) is an opportunity for academics, practitioners and consultants from around the world who are involved in the study, management and development of tourism and hospitality related issues in practice, the public sector and in education to come together and exchange ideas. There are several strong strands of research and interest that are developing in the area including sustainability, the challenges facing global tourism and emerging markets, to mention only a few. Customer oriented tourism services is another area of particular interest, where the customer co-creates services together with service providers. When the customer switches to being a service provider, it is referred to as a Sharing economy and this is arguably the newest topic in Tourism research.
