About This Position


Summary of Position

The Peter T. Paul College of Business and Economics at the University of New Hampshire strives for excellence through diversity and invites applications for the position of Chair of the Hospitality Management Department preferably beginning early 2022. 

In addition to the general faculty expectations to contribute to the College through scholarship, teaching and service, the next Chair of the Hospitality Management Department will be expected to continue to build enrollments, strengthen ties with industry, mentor faculty, and nurture an already strong alumni network that includes two actively engaged advisory boards. The Chair also serves on the Paul College Executive Committee. It is anticipated that the initial appointment as department Chair will be for three years and is renewable based on strong performance.

Acceptable Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have an earned doctorate in hospitality management, tourism, or in a closely related business field, as well as the research and teaching record and leadership experience needed to be hired as a Chair with tenure at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. The University of New Hampshire is unable to sponsor applicants for employment visas for this position.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

Competitive candidates will have a track record of excellence in teaching as well as publishing research on hospitality management or related topics in top-tier academic journals. Candidates will also demonstrate proven leadership and management skills, written and oral communication skills, and initiative in building strong academic programs. Industry experience is also valued. Candidates should demonstrate skill in working with culturally diverse constituencies in the academic environment and an ability to cultivate external relations with community leaders, institutions, and stakeholders.

Departmental Information

The Paul College of Business and Economics, formerly the Whittemore School of Business and Economics, is one of seven colleges within the University of New Hampshire. It holds accreditation from the Association for the Advancement of Collegiate Business Education (AACSB), the most elite business school accreditation, and had its accreditation recently extended in 2019.  Most recently it was ranked #55 among undergraduate business programs, including its Hotel and Hospitality Management program, by Poets & Quants Undergraduate, the only data-driven ranking for undergraduate business schools.  The College’s online MBA program which includes a specialization in Hotel and Hospitality Management is ranked #40 by US News and World Report.

The Department of Hospitality Management is the second oldest such program in the U.S. and has a strong record of developing well trained, industry ready professionals. The department is equipped with a teaching kitchen and dedicated hospitality management classrooms. Our students participate in internships around the country with leading hotel, gaming, and hospitality asset management companies. Over the past three years the department has launched a new curriculum for the BS program as well as an online MBA specialization and graduate certificate, both focused on hotel management and analytics. The department has a very engaged network of alumni many of whom are senior leaders in major hotel and hospitality companies regionally and internationally. 

This position is responsible for the supervision of Operating Staff
